Corpus Domini in Spello

the sun invading my body
the air kissing my skin
the birds, the sky, life abounding all around
everything buzzing and chirping and swirling above and below
and all I can see and think and hear and feel
is you
you
and only you

tender trumpets tip
to feed the hungry bee
with its exploring tongue
the butterflies wander
the ready buds burst open
and i’m overpowered by the fragrance
of you
you
and always you

and the sunflowers swivel slowly
from dawn to dusk
in rapture of your eyes
singing a silent song of ancient love
I remember like an echo from my youth
and it says
you
you
and forever you
